DrHairs Markham is on Warden Avenue, just north of Steeles Avenue East and a few minutes from Pacific Mall. We assess and treat hair loss in men and women — surgically, medically, or not at all, depending on what the assessment finds.
Hair loss is all we do. That matters when you are choosing where to go, because a clinic where hair is one item on a longer cosmetic menu will assess it differently to one where it is the whole practice.

Getting here
Warden and Steeles sits at the south-west corner of Markham, which puts it within a short drive of most of the city and of the Scarborough communities immediately south.
The neighbourhood we sit in. A few minutes from anywhere in Milliken, and walkable from parts of it.
East along Steeles or Denison, roughly five to ten minutes with no highway involved.
East on Steeles then north on Markham Road. Around ten minutes.
North on Warden or Kennedy, about ten to fifteen minutes from Main Street Unionville and the Varley gallery.
North on Warden, roughly fifteen minutes depending on traffic along Highway 7.
West along Highway 7 or 407, then south. Around twenty minutes.
West along Steeles, a straight run of about fifteen minutes without touching a highway.
We are directly on the Toronto boundary, so most of north Scarborough is under fifteen minutes south on Warden or Kennedy.
South on Highway 404 then east along Steeles, or straight down Warden. Twenty minutes or so.
We also see patients from Stouffville, Aurora, Newmarket, Pickering and Ajax. If you are further west, our North York clinic at Yonge and Steeles may be the easier trip.

Why this matters
Markham has no shortage of good cosmetic clinics, and several offer hair loss treatment. The difference is where hair sits on the list.
When hair loss is one service among injectables, lasers and skin treatments, it tends to be assessed the same way — quickly, and against the treatments that clinic happens to offer.
Hair loss is the only thing we do. That means the assessment can reach any conclusion, including that the right next step is a blood test, or waiting six months, or nothing at all. It also means we can say no to a procedure without losing you, because there is usually something more appropriate to discuss instead.
Who will see you
Surgical procedures are carried out by a physician registered with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. In Ontario only a physician may administer the local anaesthetic used during a transplant, or prescribe hair loss medication.
Internal assessment — thyroid, iron, hormones, nutrition — is handled by a naturopathic doctor registered with the College of Naturopaths of Ontario.
Not every term in this field is regulated. “Trichologist”, for example, is not a protected title in Ontario — anyone may use it. Both of ours are, and both colleges publish a searchable public register.

Languages
A hair loss assessment involves medical history, medications, family history and expectations. Explaining all of that in a second language is harder than it sounds, and details get lost.

Density, pattern of loss, scalp condition and donor area. Baseline photographs so change can be measured later rather than guessed at.
Medical and family history, medications and supplements, and anything that changed a few months before the shedding started.
The likely type and stage, whether anything needs medical attention, and which options fit — including which do not.
If treatment is appropriate. If it is not, we explain why and what would need to change. Nobody is asked to decide on the day.
Bring a list of your medications and supplements, and if you have a photograph of your hair from a few years ago, bring that too — it is more useful than most people expect.

Patients come from Milliken, Middlefield, Armadale, Unionville, Berczy Village, Cornell and Markham Village, as well as from Thornhill, Richmond Hill, Vaughan, Agincourt, Scarborough, Stouffville, Aurora and Newmarket.
